Exercise: Pump Class
Yep, I got up and went to a 6.15am pump class this morning - and on a day when I didn’t have to get up until about 8am
I really enjoyed the class, but unfortunately it brought home to me (with a big thump) that I seriously need to lose some weight as I had to look at my reflection in the mirrors
Still haven’t packed yet
I took Alana to school, then raced over to the supermarket to grab some food so that hubby and Alana didn’t starve over the weekend. Have just had my shower and am now starting to look at what I need to take with me. It’s only 20kg baggage allowance isn’t it?
I’m hoping to get some power walking in whilst I’m up in Qld, so have put clothes for exercise in the pile. Looking forward to walking on the beach (in the sun!).
I know that Michelle is very nervous. I’m sure once we’re up there she’ll settle down and start to enjoy herself. May just have to get a few drinks into her tonight so that she relaxes.
And yes, Eat Em, I’ve got my drinking clothes sorted
Just on a final note, I may be perimenopausal. I can put a big tick next to most of the symptoms, which is why my weight has ballooned rapidly over the last 6 months and why I never seem to be happy (hubby can testify to that). Hmmmm, might need to look into this more closely.
Talk to you all next week
I’m leaving on a jetplane…..(must pull finger out and get organised now or I’ll miss said jet plane!!)
Okay, I know that we need the rain, but this is just a bit over the top! It has not stopped raining for one minute today. I had to go over to the shopping centre at lunch time and I got absolutely soaked, and I was parking undercover too!! It was getting from the office to the car that I got the soaking, and of course getting back to the office from the car.
I’ve got a bit of water tank envy too. Our next door neighbours had a huge water tank installed when they moved back into their house (they had rented it out for a long time). It’s now totally brimming over with water. We want to get a couple put under our house, and today would have been the ideal time for them to fill up. Oh well, we’ll get organised soon
Okay, here’s a question for you. Why do people drive with their fog lights on when it’s not foggy? Is it some kind of “in” thing? All it does for me is blind me when somebody is coming towards me with headlights and fog lights blazing!
I bought the latest issue of Good Taste magazine on Monday and it’s got some great recipes in it. I made the Creamy Chicken & Cheese Gnocchi last night and a Beef and Red Lentil Curry tonight (which was delicious). Here’s a photo of the Gnocchi.

We had a couple of visitors to our garden on the weekend. Does anyone know what type of bird they are? They seemed quite tame as we could get up quite close to the tree to take photos.

And now my news that I coldn’t say much about earlier in the week. I’m going up to the Gold Coast this weekend with Michelle to cheer her on while she runs her Marathon. Her Hubby can’t go now so I’ve jumped at the chance. It should be a really good laugh and I get to meet some of the Qld Ausrunners too
I just hope the weather is better up there than down here…..now what should I pack???
Exercise: 20 Mins Treadmill, 20 Mins Cross Trainer - Stretching
Not happy
I jumped on the treadmill this morning, did 5 minutes of walking to warm up. No problems at all with calf. Upped the speed to 9kph and started a gentle jog. I only got 2 minutes of jogging in before I had to slow to a walk again. It’s still hurting
So I just did the walking thing some more, which didn’t hurt at all! I then jumped on the cross trainer to see how the calf felt. Once again, no pain. So it’s definitely something that happens just while running. How weird (and frustrating)!
I’ve booked our flights back to the UK - YAY!! And the best part is that we don’t need to actually pay for them until about 2 weeks before we leave - even better
Now I just need to figure out exactly what winter clothes to take with me so that I can ship them off to the UK by seamail 6 weeks before we leave. I want to have as much room in my suitcase as I can for all the things I’m going to buy while I’m over there
I took Alana and her friend to the movies on Sunday morning to see Fantastic Four. Another movie that I thorougly enjoyed, even though it didn’t get very good ratings. I know that Alana enjoyed it too as she’s asked if we can go see it again.
And these things are all the rage for kids right now. Just a cautionary note if you are looking to buy them for your kids….they are quite dangerous if they fall on the floor and aren’t picked up and you just happen to stand on them as you’re walking past
And JoJo, you’ll be happy to hear that we can now say our three times tables ![]()
Exercise: Weights (Shoulders, Biceps), Situps
As the weights area is directly in front of the Spin Class room, I watched enviously as I did my workout. I know where I’d rather have been, and it wasn’t in the weights area
I had an appointment with CV this morning and she pummelled me good and proper. I’m happy to report that the calf feels much better and I’m allowed to do a 5 min run, 5 min walk program. Look out treadmill, here I come. She also did a little test to see which muscles do all the work when I do certain movements. Seems that my glutes are the most lazy muscle and don’t do anything, whilst the lower back and hamstrings are doing all the work. She even complimented me on how strong and well defined my lower back muscles are
Unfortunately this is not good! My glutes need to be doing the majority of the work, so I’ve now been given some specific exercises to strengthem them. I think I’ll be trying them at home first, before I embarass myself in front of everyone at the gym though
I may have some news to share with you soon, but I’ll wait until I have confirmation
(and NO I’m not pregnant!)
Looking forward to watching Big Brother so that I can see how the dynamics in the house change now that Andrew has been evicted
(Yes I was happy to see him leave!).
And look - It’s JoJo

Exercise: Weights (Back, Chest, Legs, Triceps), Situps
I was at the gym for 8am this morning. And again I tried to make the weight workout more of a cardio workout by using lighter weights and doing lots of reps.
There was hardly anyone in the gym at 8am, yet the spin class was full (it starts at 8.15am). How weird is that!! I’m not complaining though as it was great to be able to use each piece of equipment straight away without having to wait.
I realised that I’d worked the triceps pretty hard, when I had to wash Alana’s hair in the shower once I’d got home and my arms started shaking, as they were extended the whole time
Ebay has copped a bit of a pounding over the last couple of days. Hope all the jeans that I’ve bought fit me
Right, must go and look after hyper kids. They sound like they are demolishing the bedroom ![]()

Exercise: Weights
As you can probably tell, I haven’t done any exercise since Saturday
This morning I made myself get out of bed and get down to the gym. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to concentrate on specific muscle groups, but ended up doing an all over workout, taking up Stu’s suggestion of making it more of a cardio session by doing lots of reps with lighter weights. I watched enviously as everyone else was either on the treadmill running or walking, or using the cross trainer or bike
The calf is not sore any more to stand on, although I can still feel a little bit of pain if I push around the area.
I had to ring T**stra during my lunch break at home as I wanted to add on a Data Pack to my mobile phone. I had no problem getting through, once the automated woman’s voice had understood basically what I wanted to do. It was once I was speaking to an operator that the problems began. I told her what it was that I wanted to do and she informs me that she’s not the right person that I need to speak to and can I hold on “a sec”. Why is it that I never get put through to the right person the first time!!
So I hold on for a sec….I’m still holding on 300 secs later
Me being me, I hang up and start again, this time advising the automated woman that I want something different…..voila!! I’m put through to the right department
However, poor young Sean seems to be having a problem with my request, his computer is just not doing what it’s supposed to do. I’m asked again if I can be put on hold while he tries to fix it. Of course, I respond with a slightly menacing tone!! He’s back with me within about 1 minute and tells me alls been fixed and eveything should be fine.
Now I’ve never had a Data Pack before so I questioned if there was anything I should do. Yep, he says, just turn your phone off and then on again, and wait 30 minutes before trying it. Well I’ve now waited more than 30 minutes and of course I can’t connect with the Internet (which is what I wanted to do). Now what?? I can’t call them at work as the T**stra number is barred. Aaagghhhh!!
Well I went and saw CV on Monday afternoon and she thinks that I might have a small tear at the bottom of the calf. She told me which muscle it was and it began with a T I think
Anyway, my instructions are - no running, no power walking, no cross trainer, no bike, no spin class, no rower, nothing that involves jumping up and down. So that leaves me with…….Weights! Yes, weights are now my best friend
No, pool walking isn’t my friend, no matter how much I keep thinking that it would be good for me, I just can’t face the thought of getting my clothes off and jumping into a pool in the middle of winter, even if the pool is warm!
The one thing I can do is wear high heels to work as it compresses the muscle (which is a good thing)
I’ve got another appointment on Monday morning and CV should be able to do a bit of work on the actual spot where it hurts. She did lots of work on my hammys and upper calves and my quads. Seems that these are all very tight, which may have been the reason why it happened
Why is it that I can still fit into my clothes pretty comfortably, yet the scales keep registering that I’m getting heavier? I know that it’s about that T.O.M. but I just can’t believe that I can put on all this weight but not feel it in my clothes
And on a good note, we made the decision last night that we are definitely going to the UK at Christmas for our holiday ![]()
Thankyou everyone for your comments.
Well I’ve kept the calf compressed for most of the time. Unfortunately I didn’t really sit down at all yesterday so haven’t applied the ice (sorry Em
).
It does seem to be feeling a bit better, although I haven’t dared stretch it at all as I’m worried that it might ping again. Have managed to get an appointment with CV for later this afternoon, so hopefully she can do some magical thing and make it all better
I was hoping to do a spin class this morning, but when I woke up, the calf still didn’t feel “right”, so I made the decision to totally rest up and not put any pressure on the leg at all. Will probably do some weights tomorrow morning.
Oh yeah, Em and JoJo, thanks for the invitation but I won’t be attending any pool sessions with you girls any time soon
Bit of a whinge now…..I took out all the weekend junk from our letterbox this morning. I think it must have been put in there yesterday. Anyway there was a flyer from KMart advertising a “buy one item of clothing, buy another and get 70% off”. That’s all well and good but it was only on from Thursday 14th June until Sunday 17th June. What good is to me now??? Why wasn’t this put into my letterbox on Wednesday? I don’t know, how is a girl supposed to ever grab a bargain ![]()
6km Run - MMCT (7’s Yellow)
Disaster has struck
I got up early to meet Michelle at MMCT (nothing new there!!). It was quite cool so I’d layered up well. We started off at our normal sedate pace to warm up. Everything still normal to this point.
It was only when we got to the turnaround point that things went wrong. We’d stopped and had a bit of a stretch and we’d just got going again when all of a sudden I got this really bad sore pain in my lower calf/achillies area. Had to stop straight away as it hurt too much to run. Had a bit of a stretch over the back of the pavement and went to start running again, but the pain was just too much so had to stop straight away. Looked like I was going to have to walk all the way back to the car (which was about 3.5km away).
Michelle offered to run back to her car and drive back to pick me up, so off she went while I just continued my hobble in the general direction of the car. I got to Kalinda Road (which was where Michelle was going to pick me up from) but I didn’t want to stand stilll as I was cooling down and starting to feel cold, so I kept walking up to the end of Kalinda Road. Couldn’t see Michelle at all, so turned around and started walking back up to MM. Luckily Michelle came around the corner just as I’d turned back and we then drove back to my car.
I’m not happy. I haven’t done anything to deserve this (whatever this is!!). I got home but didn’t have much time to ice my calf as I had to shower and then take Alana to Roller Skating. I did put a compression bandage on it and tried to keep off my feet as much as possible. I then had to go straight over to get my hair cut, so I was sitting in the chair for another couple of hours.
Then when I got home I dropped Alana off and went back out to do the food shopping. It was only once I’d cooked dinner and sat down that I was able to put some ice on the calf.
I have no idea what’s caused it. I haven’t been overtraining, that’s for sure. I was nicely warmed up, and we weren’t doing any type of speed either when it happened. My calves wern’t feeling particularly tight and there was no pain there beforehand. Can you tell I’m not happy. I was supposed to be going for a nice enjoyable 20km run with Michelle tomorrow along a new trail that I’ve not run before too.
It hurts to walk on it. It’s not fair. It’s just not fair! ![]()
Exercise: Cross Trainer, Bike, Ski Machine (1 Hour)
You City folk have got it easy you know! It only got down to 3 degrees up there, yet over my way it was in the negatives. Take a look below.

I had to scrape ice off my windscreen before I could drive down to the gym. I didn’t actually have anything handy to scrape with, so I used some water from my water bottle that I was carrying and had the heater up full blast on the screen. I drove down to the gym peering through a little hole in the windscreen. Probably not the safest way to drive though.
While I was at the shopping centre yesterday I bought my weekly lotto ticket. Normally I buy all of my tickets (Saturday and Wednesday Lotto and 7 days worth of Keno) on a Saturday, but I forgot last Saturday and didn’t remember until yesterday. I was told that I’d won $25 on a Saturday ticket a couple of weeks ago, but could I find that ticket anywhere. I’ve now got to wait until the winnings get sent to me in the mail
Did I mention that another one of Alana’s top teeth came out last Saturday. I really hope that her big front ones come through soon as it must be so hard trying to eat without all 4 front teeth. Whenever she smiles she looks like she’s forgotten to put her dentures in
I’ve signed up with a new kind of “my space”. It’s called Facebook and it looks much easier to use than My Space. Just couldn’t seem to get into that at all. Happy to add you as my friend if you’re already signed up
Alana’s Quote: “Geez Mum, just chill out will ya!” (I was having a little rage at the stupid driver in front of me)
Exercise: 30 Min Power Walk, 3km Run (Treadmill) (7’s Yellow)
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I got to the gym this morning. There was a low impact aerobic class starting at 6.15am and I couldn’t make up my mind if I wanted to do this or jump on the treadmill. The treadmill won out
I’m still finding it a bit hard to run any kind of distance on the treadmill though. The power walk was at a 5% incline at 7kph. I can certainly feel it in my bum now!
I made Chicken Parmigiana for dinner tonight. It’s such an easy recipe and tastes absolutely fantastic. Recipe is on the recipe page if anyone’s interested.

There is a big gum tree outside my window at work. It’s the one in the right hand corner of this photo

This is what’s left of it now

One of the branches became very unstable and it was decided that it was safer to cut the whole tree down
I forgot to fill up my car with petrol this morning (I always fill up before the prices go up each week). I had to go to the Supermarket at lunch time and saw that the price hadn’t gone up yet at the local Safeway petrol station, so I raced through the Supermaket, ensuring that I had at least $30 worth of stuff so that I got a petrol voucher, and then raced over to fill the car up…..phew, that was a close one ![]()
Exercise: Weights - Legs, Abs
Got my 30 minute session in at lunch time. I thought I might try out the program that the girly at the gym made up for me to see if it’s any good. It fits into the 30 minute session if that’s anything
I don’t normally do any strength work on my legs as I always get worried that it’ll interfere with my running if my legs are sore after doing a weight workout on them. However I’m not running with Michelle until Friday, so if I do run it’ll only be on the treadmill and I can control the speed and gradient of it so can adjust in accordance with how my legs are feeling
Found this picture on my phone. These Galahs were outside the front of the cabin where we were staying in Echuca. There was a whole flock of them and they were very noisy when they all grouped together and took off into the air!!

And this was Melbourne yesterday as I was walking back to my car. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and there were loads of people walking down Southbank.

Exercise: 30 Mins Crosstrainer, 3km Run (Treadmill) - (7’s Blue)
Back down to the gym this morning, due to Michelle having to start work early, and also that it was peeing down with rain, so running outside was not an option for me.
My legs are fairly sore from Sundays run, so I started off on the Cross Trainer. My legs felt okay after 30 minutes, so I ventured onto the treadmill. I found it really hard going, mainly because I didn’t have my music. I thought that my MP3 player was in my gym bag, which was in the car, but when I went to get it out, I realised I’d left it at home. The stupid thing was that I went to the drawer that I keep it in, but just didn’t see it as I wasn’t looking for it.
I drove past the local McDonalds on the way to work this morning and they are attaching a McCafe to it…..yippee!!! I love McDonalds Lattes, so now I can grab one on my way to work every day.
Alana had a very snotty nose on Sunday night, so I thought, what better time than now to try the cure for the cold. I slathered the Vicks on her feet, chucked some socks on her, and, hey presto, when she woke up on Monday morning she was fine…no more snotty nose
I also did it last night just to make sure that she’d be well enough to go to school today
I had a wonderful day yesterday. I’d asked my Mum if she wanted to come up to town with me so that I could check out Converse to see if they had any Saucony trainers in my size that I could snap up in the 50% off sale that they’re having. She rang me yesterday morning to say that she wasn’t really up for it but she’d be happy to have Alana for the day so that I could have a day out on my own
I drove up to town, parked in the Casino car park and walked up to Spencer Street Station (which is where the new DFO is) and just ambled around all the shops. I’m very proud of myself too. I didn’t buy anything apart from my trainers
Okay, so I did buy Alana some new boots from Skechers, but in my defence, they were just so cute!!
I have realised that I have a lot of clothes
I can go for at least 2 weeks (maybe a litle bit longer) without wearing the same thing twice. That also incluldes underwear and running gear. Does anyone else own this many clothes? Please tell me this is normal.
I was listening to the radio last week and I heard someone mention a reliable cure for the common cold.
Rub Vicks Vaporub on your feet before bed (yep, that’s right, your feet), put some socks on and hop into bed. In the morning you should feel 100% better. It seems that you sweat out the cold overnight.
Might try this the next time I’m coming down with a cold ![]()
Exercise: 22km Run - MMCT (6’s)
Oohhh wasn’t it cold this morning…bbrrrrr!! Michelle was doing her ‘normal’ long run so she ran from home and met me at MMCT. I have to admit that it didn’t take me too long to warm up once I started running, and took my jacket off as we ran back past my car.
Of course, by taking off my jacket, Michelle and I looked like twins as we both had the same long top on
The run was quite uneventful. The trail was fairly busy, the sun was absolutely lovely, and the company was great too
When we’d finished (well when I’d finished, as Michelle still had to run home) I jumped in the car and headed for Brand Smart as I’d heard that the Converse Outlet was having a 50% off sale on Saucony trainers. It was only when I got there that I was told by a shop assistant in another sports store that Converse were no longer there
So I cheered myself up by buying a new long sleeve running top and a Diana Ferrari purse (both reduced of course!). I’m going to head over to Smith Street tomorrow to see what’s on sale over there. Might also jump on the tram and check out the new DFO at Spencer Street Station.
And are we all jumping up and down now that Emma has been evicted
Did you see what the percentage of votes was for her
I just wish that Andrew had also been evicted as I think he’s another controlling person. I’d hoped that Rebecca would stay so that she could really open up and be herself once Emma got evicted, but it just wasn’t to be.
Alana’s Quote: “I want to be a policeman when I grow up”
Me: “Why?”
Alana: “So that I can drive fast and put the sirens on loud!”
Exercise: Spin Class
I’d been told by someone I had seen at the gym this week that if I wanted to do this spin class to get there early as it’s very popular. So I got to the gym 10 minutes early and stood outside the door. And yes, I was the first in the line to get in when they opened at 8am (see how much I wanted to do this class!!).
And it was true, the class was indeed very busy. I’m sure that if it hadn’t been a long weekend that it would have been full (there were only 2 unused bikes). This class was never busy when I used to come down and use the gym on a Saturday morning. I can only guess that it’s the music that the instructor plays. It’s all great 80’s sing along music and the instructor really matches it up well with the type of exercise on the bike.
I wanted to take it a little bit easy as this is my first time back after 6 months, but of course I just got caught up in the music and what we were doing and ended up putting in 100%. I just hope that my legs aren’t too sore tomorrow as I’ve got a 20km run lined up
Took Alana and a friend of hers to see Shrek 3 this afternoon. I know that it hasn’t had rave reviews but I found it very entertaining and giggled along at all the adult inuendos as well as the kiddy stuff. My only downfall was that I devoured a bag of white choc coated raspberry bullets while watching the movie
There are a couple of new movies coming out that look really good. A sequel to Bruce Almighty called Evan Almighty, a fantasy movie called Stardust, which starts Michelle Pfeiffer, Sienna Miller, Robert De Niro and Ricky Gervais and The Bee Movie. Think we’re going to have to find a regular babysitter for Alana
Alana’s Quote: Me: “I didn’t go to Uni”
Alana: “Yeah but you’re only a parent so you don’t have to go!”
Well what can I say - I got the nancy girl. At least I got measured and weighed, so I have something to work towards. I’m going to get measured once a month to see how my body is changing shape. I probably won’t be using the program that the girl set out for me as I don’t think she really understood what I wanted.
I asked for a program that I could do in 4 half hour sessions (you know, like 4 separate half hour programs). I explained to her that I wanted to come in at lunch times to do a weight session and to work one or two muscle groups at each session. So she does 2 programs and tries to incorporate the different muscle groups into those 2 programs. HELLOOOO!! Were you not listening to what I said. And even then it took her forever to think of each program.
Then she took me around each weight machine to show me how to use them. I’d already told her that I’d been at this gym for 2 years and had a program previous to rejoining, so I’m sure she was aware that I had used the machines before. That took at least 1/2 hour, of which I could have been doing a workout.
I was actually quite stroppy by the time I walked out of the gym….probably not the best reaction to have after just rejoining. I’ll just wait for a month and then ask for a different trainer (there’s one girl in there who I know is good) and get her to do me another program.
On the way home from work last night I was driving along the highway (3 lanes) in the far left lane as I wanted to turn left off the highway at the traffic lights. All of a sudden this little poky white car comes flying out of the far right hand lane into the middle lane, drives along a little bit and then gets right next to me, indicates, and expects me to drop back so that I can let it in. Looking in my rearview mirror I see that there is absolutely no traffic behind me in the lane I’m driving in. I see red (like you do) and do not let this little pissy car in so they have to drop back a bit and pull in behind me. And then the cheeky bugger flashes me!! What is it with these idiot drivers, for gods sake!! This driver was in the far right hand lane when I pulled onto the highway, so it wasn’t as if he didn’t have plenty of time to move over well before the turnoff. Aaaaghhhhh!!!
Exercise: 5km Run (Treadmill), Weights (Triceps) (7’s Blue)
Still motivated!! I had a slight hesitation when the alarm went off this morning, but cast the thought aside and jumped out of bed…..okay so I didn’t exactly jump, more slid a little bit unwillingly out of my nice warm bed! But I went to the gym and that’s what counts, right
I tried to vary my run by alternating speed and then alternating gradient. I’m trying to get away from the “I must run a certain distance” thing as it puts way too much pressure on me to run hard and long. I’m just trying to enjoy the treadmill running so that I don’t get bored and not want to do it at all!!
Sitting here at my desk now, I’m finding that when I move I can feel my stomach muscles hurting. I can’t remember the last time that I did situps, so over the last 3 days I have tried to incorporate them into every session. Now whenever I laugh or bend over, they hurt
What do they say - No pain, no gain! (there is definitely pain at the moment, that’s for sure)
I’m back down to the gym at lunch time for my “induction”. I’m not sure how they’re going to induct me as I know the gym inside out already. And I’ve already got my gym program sorted (did it myself), so I’ll just go with the flow. I just hope I don’t get one of those nancy trainers who have no real idea of what I need to to to compliment my running and try and write a program which has no oomph to it, because I know that I’ll never follow anything that doesn’t interest me or give me something good to work towards.
Driving to work this morning I was travelling behind a car. Nothing really specific about it other than the fact it was driving at a decent speed, about the same as I was driving. We just about get to the top of this hill and all of a sudden he slams on his brakes. What was the reason I hear you all ask! Well that was my question as well (maybe not said as nicely though!). There was absolutely nothing in front of him that would make him slam those brakes on. I thought at first there might have been a car with a speed camera on the side of the road, but no, there was nothing. Why do these people do such inane things?????
Exercise: AM - 9.6km Run - MMCT (6’s)
Lunch - Weights (Back, Shoulders), Situps
I dressed for cold weather running this morning. T-shirt, Long Sleeved shirt, Long pants, Sleeveless Jacket, Fingerless Gloves, Ear Warmer and Cap. Happy to say that I ddin’t feel the cold at all
The run however was slow, as my muscles are a bit sore from using the cross trainer yesterday. This will improve I’m sure once I start using it regularly.
Back to the gym at lunchtime today for some more weight training. It’s amazing how quickly we lose our strength. Had to use pretty low weights to do the exercises. I love the fact that there’s hardly anyone in there at lunch times though.
And I got on the scales this morning to record my weekly weigh in weight for the Ausrun Forum Weekly Weight Loss Challenge and am happy to report that I’ve had a 600gm loss this week. And this is taking in the weekend and all the alcohol and food that I ate too
I’ve changed my mind again about the Run to The G. Not going to do it now. As soon as I committed to it verbally I have felt this great weight on my shoulders, and as Michelle had decided not to enter it was an even bigger burden. So I made the decision not to do it. Just wish I could make up my mind sometimes….will I, wont I, will I wont I! ![]()
Exercise: AM - 5km Run (Treadmill), 15 Mins Cross Trainer (7’s Yellow)
Lunch - Weights (Chest, Biceps), Situps
Oooh twice in one day. That’s motivation for you. Well actually it’s just me making the most of my money at the moment. I want this feeling to last. I want to enjoy going to the gym as I did today, even though it was absolutely freezing cold when I got up this morning.
Treadmill running will take a bit of getting used to again. I wanted to run for an hour, but unfortunately I went a bit faster than maybe I should have and was absolutely exhaused after 5km. It’ll take a little while, but I’ll get back up to running for an hour constantly.
I can feel that I actually used my muscles today. My chest is a little bit tender when I move, but not too much that I’m in agony….well tonight I’m not in agony, who knows what I’m going to feel like tomorrow
Does anyone else read Jack Reacher books written by Lee Child? His latest one has just been released and I reserved a copy at the library. They are a very popular book as I had to wait over 2 weeks for one to become available. Am going to bed soon so that I can snuggle down and get stuck into the book. I highly recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a good read.
Oh yeah, I’ve found the best licorice in the whole world. It’s made by Ricci and it’s dark coated red licorice chunks…..yummo!!
Exercise: Netball Game (6’s)
Well I went and signed back up at Fernwood today. After visiting there last Thursday as a guest I decided that it was what I really needed to do. I have to get back into my weight training and my cardio cross training. I’ve been doing none of it at all, apart from Netball once a week, which just isn’t enough. I think because I haven’t been doing anything apart from running, my metabolism has dropped and it’s probably one of the reasons why I’ve put weight on and am finding it hard to lose.
We lost at Netball tonight. The opposition were the better team. They did have an unfair advantage though. Both umpires looked like they were best friends with most of the girls in the team as they all hugged each other before the game. Now unless this is some kind of new rule where everyone has to hug the umpires, then it gave them a good lead even before the game started.
By half time we had to do something about the total unprofessional conduct of both umpires. They were just so biased towards the other team. In the end I went and spoke to one of the organisers of the league and asked if she’d come down and just watch for a little while to see if we were correct in our judgement of the umpires. She actually went and spoke to both of them, and it was amazing that when the 3rd quarter started, they actually pulled the other team up for obstruction, contact and travel, which they’d done none of in the first half.
As I said, we still lost the game, but at least we had half a chance during the second half. And I’ve made the decision not to play the winter season. I found it really hard to walk out the door last night as it was so cold, and we are only just at the start of winter, so I’m not going to put myself through the hassle of freezing to death every Monday evening.
On to Big Brother

I’m just so sick of screaming at the TV every time Emma opens her mouth. I really would like to just sit quietly and enjoy the show, rather than hurling abuse at that back stabbing, fake cow every time she’s on!! (okay, got that off my natural chest now)
Hubby hasn’t been to Echuca yet so we decided to have a long weekend and head up there. I’ve never been there myself so I had no idea either what it was going to be like.
We stopped off at the SPC/Ardmona factory on the way up. Got lots of cheap cans of fruit, soup, chips, chocolate etc
We stayed at the Echuca Caravan Park in one of their deluxe cabins. I have to say that for the money they are really worthwhile. There was plenty of room for everyone inside the cabin. There was also a TV and DVD player.
Went over to the Moama Bowling Club for dinner. I think that we were the youngest people in the club. Why didn’t anyone tell me that Echuca and Moama are full of oldies??? I was really disappointed in the food as well. It was very expensive for what it was. Then we dropped Alana off at the supervised childrens rooms while we wandered into the Pokies area.
Now I’m a reformed smoker but can tolerate a certain amount of cigarette smoke. This place has an area where the smokers can play the machines right at the front where you walk in, so you’ve got to walk right through all the smoke and haze before you get to the non-smoking area….how stupid is that!! The ban on smoking altogether in clubs is not applicable in NSW until 2nd July (I think that’s what I read anyway!).
There was torrential rain overnight, which kept Hubby awake. I heard nothing until he woke me up to tell me how loud it was
Luckily I had some ear plugs in my make up bag!
We also went on a Paddlesteamer, which Alana absolutely loved (apart from the noise of the horn, which she was standing right next to when the captain blew it!!).

We had lunch at a nice restaurant overlooking the river. I think that the waiter who served us had either not gotten out of bed on the right side, or had nearly finished his shift as he was so blase and off hand it was almost rude!
Then we wandered around the main street of Echuca for a while, just checking out the shops. We came across a lolly shop and found these little beauties

Sunday morning we had to vacate the cabin, and went in search of some breakfast. We found a wonderful cafe in the main street and devoured full english breakfasts and big mugs of coffee, before we made our way back to Melbourne.
I’m sure that you’ve realised there was no mention of running at all. I confess that I took my running gear with me, and there were plenty of trails to run, but there was a definite lack of motivation to go out into the cold on both mornings. So rather than beat myself up with guilt, I just made the decision to enjoy the weekend and not run, rather than thinking about what running I should be doing and making myself feel bad
Overall I don’t think we’ll bother going back to Echuca again. I’m sure it has a different feel in the summer months, but I just found it a bit boring. But each to their own I suppose. Now, where to for our next adventure?
